Opportunity: Young Touring Company 2019

“I have a lot to thank this project for. Before, my confidence was knocked really badly. Just to feel part of something – having a professional role, knowing how to be an example to others – has built me up again. I have found the reason to go out and find other opportunities.”

Are you ready to take a Step Up into the creative industries?

Interested in a career on stage OR backstage / technical theatre?

Want a unique training opportunity in the performing arts?

Apply to Join LYT’s
Young Touring Company 2019 (16-24)

What Will I Be Doing? You can apply to be a performer or a production assistant. As part of the Young Touring Company, you will work with a professional Director and Stage Manager  to create and tour a Forum Theatre performance.

Performers will devise the play – creating the storyline, characters and dialogue – with a professional director/writer. You will learn improvisation and facilitation techniques to use in the forum theatre workshop. You will then rehearse and perform the play to school and youth groups around Lewisham.

Production Assistants will create sound, set, costume and prop design for the performance alongside a professional Stage Manager. You will help to stage manage the tour and run the technical aspects of the play during the performance. You’ll be able to learn a range of backstage skills and tailor your role around the areas that most interest you.

What does it cost? The project is free. You will receive travel and lunch expenses during rehearsals, and you will be paid a trainee fee per performance.

Who is it for?  To take part, you need to live or learn in Lewisham, be 16-24 years old and not be in full-time education or employment. You should be passionate about theatre, a supportive team member, punctual, reliable and hardworking.

What will I get out of it? Past participants have gone on to further drama and theatre training, College and University as well as other voluntary and paid opportunities with LYT.

At the end of the project, you will be offered 1 to 1 mentoring to support you with your training, education or work ambitions.

When is it?  Auditions will be on Wednesdays 8th and 15th May, 1-4pm

Rehearsals will be Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 10am – 4pm from 4th June to 2nd July
