“Over the year I have seen a complete transformation in [the young people referred to LYT]. I can proudly say they are in education due to LYT’s positive involvement with them.”
Step Up is a free, informal, creative project to support young people aged 16-24 who are not in full-time employment, education or training. It’s designed to develop your skills, to help you increase confidence, well-being, support you back into work or education, and get where you want to go.
Life & Employability Skills Project
Do you want to increase your confidence? Move forward and develop the future you want? Learn new skills?
LYT’s Life Skills Project consists of 8 creative sessions across 4 weeks. Each session will involve fun and interactive activities, using creative methods to help you focus and develop skills for your professional future. You will develop skills in interview techniques, identifying positive qualities and conflict resolution. The sessions are built around what you want to learn. No experience of drama is required. You’ll be able to gain three AQA Unit Awards through taking part.
Past participants have gone on to other projects within LYT and reengaged with education and training programmes.
Sessions will take place:
January – February 2019
Tuesdays and Wednesday, 11am – 3pm
at the Broadway Theatre Rehearsal Room

Young Touring Company – Forum Theatre Tour
A unique and intensive training opportunity for young artists to create and perform a play for and about young people. This programme is the next step for those over 16 who are interested in pathways into training for theatre and community and youth work.
The Project Will Run:
May – July 2019
Tuesdsays & Wednesdays, 10am – 4pm
What is it?
The Young Touring Company is made up of 5 young theatre makers, aged 16-24, who come together to create and tour a new play. Supported by a professional production team, they take on roles as performers and production assistants to devise, produce and tour the play to schools and youth settings across Lewisham. The play uses Forum Theatre – an interactive theatre technique that gets the audience to try out solutions to the characters’ problems.
What will I gain?
As a performer, you’ll learn new skills in Forum Theatre, devising an original script and training as a Workshop Facilitator. As a production assistant, you’ll gain skills in theatre design, project management and arts administration. All participants will gain AQA accreditations and will be able to work towards Arts Award qualifications.
Where does it take place?
Rehearsals take place at the Broadway Theatre Rehearsal Room in Catford and culminate in 2 weeks of touring in the local community.
