LYT Remote

Remote Youth Theatre

LYT brings young people from across Lewisham together to make outstanding theatre. During this period of social distancing, we want to make sure our participants can continue to connect, to deepen their creativity and to express their experience of this time.   We’ve started to deliver activities and events online.

See below for more about what we’ll be delivering
during the Covid-19 lockdown.

Remote Storytime, 3-8s & families

Join us live on our Facebook page for a series of stories for children ages 3 and up, and their families.

Friday 12th June, 11.30am: ‘What Is That Sound’
Helen and her animal friends need your help to solve a mystery!

Junior Youth Theatre, 8-11s

Our Juniors have been rehearsing two plays about children taking matters into their own hands. They’re continuing to rehearse online during the lockdown.

We’re working with our designer and brilliant creative team to explore how we can still tell these stories, even though we can’t be together. The groups will film their scenes over video conferencing during the May half-term, and we hope to be able to share their work publicly later in the summer.

How You Can Take Part:

In the meantime, we’re also developing ways that you can explore these stories and others through fun at-home activities and challenges aimed at children aged 8-11.

More activities coming soon.

Junior Youth Theatre, 12-14s

The Junior Youth Theatre Acting Company held our first digital performance on 16th April:

Playing My Part

was a live streamed event with pre-recorded video
showcasing scenes about youth activism and
the role that young people can play in changing their world.

You can still watch live on our Facebook Page
(You don’t need a facebook account)

During the Summer term 2020:

The 12-14s Acting Company will be meeting online to develop a new digital performance, using new material created during the rehearsals of Playing My Part. Want to find out more about these sessions? Email Amy.

Technical Theatre, 12-17s

Not all drama happens on stage! Our technical theatre groups are meeting online to learn more about backstage skills like lighting, sound, design, costumes and make-up.

They’ll have a chance to meet professionals and take masterclasses in their own homes.

Want to find out more about these sessions? Email Louise.

Senior Youth Theatre, 14-21s

Our Seniors have begun meeting online to develop a creative response to the current moment. From not being able to say goodbye to friends, to fearing for friends and family in the NHS – we’ve been hearing moving stories about their experiences.

They’re planning to share the initial work they create with other young people in July. The plays created out of this process will form the basis of LYT’s production in 2021. For more information about these projects, email Helen.
